Introduction to Insights
We don't all experience the same moment the same way. Two people can sit through the same meeting and walk away with completely different read on what mattered — not because one of them is wrong, but because everyone filters events through their own natural behaviour style. That gap in perception is where most day-to-day friction between colleagues actually comes from.
The four-colour language used in this workshop has deep roots: Hippocrates first described four temperaments over two thousand years ago, and in the 1920s psychologist William Moulton Marston built on that idea to explain how ordinary people's behaviour shifts with their sense of control and their focus on people versus tasks. His work became the foundation for the DISC/Insights-style colour models that organisations still use today to give people a fast, shared vocabulary for "how someone operates," without needing a psychology degree to use it.
Almost nobody is a single pure colour. Most people are a blend, usually led by one or two colours that show up strongest under normal conditions, with the others still present in the background. The point of the model isn't to put anyone in a box — it's to give you a quick, practical read on how you and the people around you prefer to communicate, decide, and handle pressure, so you can adjust rather than assume everyone works the way you do.
Use this tab to get a rough sense of the four energies before you take the assessment. Your own detailed breakdown, strengths, and blind spots will show up under My Report once you've completed it.
The Four Colour Energies
Fiery Red — Dominance & Drive
Fast, direct, results-first.
- Decides quickly and takes charge, especially under pressure or in a crisis
- Values speed and results over process or consensus
- Blunt and to the point — says what they think without softening it
- Can come across as impatient or competitive, even in low-stakes moments
Sunshine Yellow — Influence & Inspiration
Warm, persuasive, big-picture.
- Natural communicator who builds relationships and energy in a room
- Optimistic and quick to bounce back from setbacks
- Generates ideas and possibilities faster than the details behind them
- Can talk more than they listen and lose steam once novelty wears off
Earth Green — Steadiness & Support

- Excellent listener who genuinely puts others first
- Patient and consistent, but uncomfortable with sudden change
- Tends to avoid conflict, which can hide real concerns until they build up
Cool Blue — Compliance & Precision
Careful, factual, quality-driven.
- Thorough and detail-oriented, holds a high bar for accuracy
- Decides based on data and logic rather than gut feel
- Prepares extensively and is uncomfortable with ambiguity or being rushed
- Can seem reserved or overly critical, especially early in a relationship

Tips
A quick reference for working with colleagues of each colour energy — drawn from and paraphrased from the ideas in Surrounded by Idiots. Use it to look up a colleague's dominant style before a tricky conversation, a review, or a negotiation.
